Forested hills, romantic white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters greet visitors to tropical Langkawi Island, the largest of the 99 islands in Langkawi archipelago. Known mysteriously as “Legendary Island” because of myths associated with its ancient geological formations, it drifts serenely alongside Malaysia in the azure Andaman Sea. Sample local cuisine at the night markets, hike to dramatic waterfalls or dive into an underwater marine park to take a guided glimpse at life beneath the sea.

GETTING TO LANGKAWI

 

Although Langkawi may seem to be an isolated cluster of islands on the Andaman Sea and separate by the Malacca Strait by some 30kms from the nearest point of Malaysia’s western coast, there are both regular air and water way connections to the main island of Langkawi. Langkawi is connected with several points in Malaysia like Kulala Lumpur and Penang, as well as several other overseas cities like Singapore, Phuket (Thailand) and Australia. To get to Langkawi the fastest way is to hop on a flight from KLIA that flies directly to Langkawi that only takes 45 mintues. Regular buses are available between KL and Kuala Perlis (takes about 8 hours). Buses leaves from Pudu Sentral bus station or Hentian Duta bus station in KL. Ferry terminal at Kuala Kedah which is located at the north western coast of Malaysia. If you are driving along the North South Expressway (E1), take the exit at Alor Setar Selatan, and follow the signs. It takes about 6 hours to reach Kuala Kedah by car from Kuala Lumpur.
