South of Gili Islands Snorkelling

When most people hear about the Gili islands in Indonesia, they probably think of the 3 famous Gili islands, Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air, in the northwest of Lombok. But did you know that many more Gili islands are even more pretty and beautiful?

Floating in a turquoise sea and fringed by white sand and coconut palms, the Gilis are a vision of paradise.

Only a few kilometres off the northwest coast of Lombok lay the idyllic Gili islands. “Gili” actually means ‘island’ in the local language. Yet, due to the popularity and closeness of these three islands, they have become known as the Gilis.

This archipelago of three small coral islands has rapidly become one of the most popular destinations for visitors to Bali and Lombok.

The coastal beauty is complemented by stretches of white and coral sand. The calm and azure waters surrounding the small islands offer incredible snorkelling. There are fantastic dive spots around tropical coral gardens teeming with biodiversity underneath the waves.

The crystal-clear waters around the Gili Islands are dotted with premier dive sites. They regularly draw divers from all around the world. The reefs and straits thrive with marine life, and most sites offer extraordinary visibility all year round.

The waters around the islands are mostly shallow, and occasional sightings of sea turtles roaming freely will be an added bonus on your snorkelling trips here.

Gili Nanggu

The first stop is at Gili Nanggu. It is a short 15-minute boat ride from Lombok island. The powdery white sand and turquoise blue water will welcome you to this tiny paradise island. This will be your first stop to explore the underwater world and the beautiful island.

Gili Nanggu is the most beautiful island of these three Gili Islands. The only thing to do on Gili Nanggu is snorkelling! There is nothing else going on on this island. There is only one accommodation and one restaurant.

Snorkelling your way around Gili Nanggu. There are plenty of beautiful corals and colourful fish beneath the waves to marvel at. The beaches at Gili Nanggu are tropical white, and you will find crystal clear blue water, where you can perfectly snorkel and swim.

Gili Tangkong

From many other Lombok Gili islands, Gili Tangkong is also a paradise, just like Gili Nanggu. Here you can also snorkel for a couple of hours. Be amazed by the beautiful coral and fish. You will also find an excellent swing and some fantastic photo spots on this island.

Gili Kedis

Gili Kedis is the tiniest island! It is probably no bigger than the size of a tennis court and has the shape of a heart. You won’t find anything on the island, except for some trees in the middle. There is many fish around for you to see underwater.

This is the tiniest island of this day trip to the Secret Gilis. Only one small beach shack serves snacks, and you will only see a few palm trees and beach chairs on this tiny island. The several swings and beach chairs made this a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings, tan, or continue your beach nap.

The Secret Gilis boat tour turned out to be a great and relaxing way to spend a day from Lombok.
