Situated at the famous Kilim River in Eastern Langkawi Island, Kilim is an outstanding land-form with a dramatic landscape surrounding the hidden lagoon of Kilim Geoforest Park. Here the largest mangroves area in this region is located. Kayaking through the channel and waterways is an exciting experience to see the virgin mangrove jungles. One can also see a Cave full of bats, local fishermen area, pure mangroves, and abandon islander villages.

Kilim Geoforest Park Langkawi, spanning almost 100 square kilometres, is noteworthy for mangrove swamps, pristine beaches, and vertical karstic hills jutting towards the Andaman Sea. Set along the northeast tip of Langkawi Island, the park is accessible within a five-minute drive from Tanjung Rhu Beach.

The Kilim Geoforest Park is one of three Geoforests on Pulau Langkawi, which itself was designated a Geopark by UNESCO in 2007. The Kilim Geoforest Park is reportedly the most successful eco-tourism destination in Langkawi. It features a wide variety of natural features, including coastal karst, caves, pristine mangrove forests, flora and fauna, fossils, and the oldest carbonate rock in the region; formed 490-370 million years ago.

A good variety of wildlife is found in Kilim Geoforest Park Langkawi, ranging from otters and monitor lizards to macaques and tree crabs hiding among thick mangroves. During the migratory seasons (September to March), you can spot birdlife of varying species, including kingfishers, white-bellied fish eagles, and kite eagles.

Scattered across Kilim Geoforest Park Langkawi are limestone formations over 500 million years old, with unique names such as the Temple of Borobodur, the Elephant Stone, and the Hanging Gardens. Numerous caves are filled with fossils andic stalagmite and stalactites, namely Crocodile Cave, Cave of Legends, and Bat Cave.

The best way to explore this protected landscape is via a riverboat cruise along the Kilim River. Aside from a leisurely experience with an experienced nature guide, visitors are also chartered to the limestone caves and a floating fish farm where they can hand-feed stingrays and archer fishes.
