Things To Do With Kids | Langkawi

Langkawi is one of the most popular places to visit in Malaysia with family.

Apart from amazing beaches, the family-friendly attractions in Langkawi and the fun tours you can take, it’s no wonder that people think this is one of the best places to visit in Malaysia with kids. If you are wondering what to do in Langkawi with kids other than play on the beach, then here we give you our pick of the best things to do in Langkawi with kids.

1. Kilim Geoforest Park and Mangrove Tour

No trip to Langkawi is complete without visiting the mangrove forest. Of all the Langkawi things to do, this is one of the most unique. The Kilim Geoforest Park is a 100km nature reserve with some of the most stunning scenery – towering limestone cliffs, hidden sandy white beaches and hidden caves amongst the mangroves.

The Langkawi mangrove tour with kids brings you to explore the bat caves, a deserted island and watch as eagles swooped into the water to catch fish. This is such a great nature experience for kids – as well as the bats in the bat cave and the birds of prey swooping for fish, you get to see mudskippers, monkeys, a mangrove viper or even a baby monitor lizard swim by.

The tour ends with lunch at a floating restaurant with its own fish farm, where kids get to explore the farm and feed the fish. Those with older kids could also consider joining a kayaking tour of the mangroves for even more fun. Definitely one of the best things to do in Langkawi with kids.

2. Langkawi SkyBridge and SkyCab

Perching on the top a mountain, suspended from a 82 metre single pylon you will find one of the most spectacular attractions in Langkawi: the Langkawi Skybridge. This ‘floating’ bridge hangs at 100 metres above the rainforest and offers incredible views over Langkawi and out to sea. As the world’s longest curve suspension bridge, this is one of the most popular tourist places in Malaysia. Not recommended if you are scared of heights!

Getting to the SkyBridge is half the fun: the only way to get here is via the Langkawi SkyCab, one of the steepest cable car rides in the world. This 15-minute cable car ride covers 2.2km in distance and takes you up to the Top Station at the SkyBridge at 708 meters above sea level.

3. Langkawi Wildlife Park

Another of the best Langkawi island attractions for families is the Langkawi Wildlife Park & Bird Paradise. There are over 2,000 birds from 150 species from around the world at this 5-acre wildlife park.

The emphasis is on being interactive and hands-on, with the opportunity for the kids to help feed the fish and animals, including feeding guinea pigs, cuddling rabbits, and feeding birds out of their hands.

4. Langkawi Underwater World

One of the top things to do in Langkawi with children has to be to visit Underwater World.

If Langkawi’s afternoon tropical showers are hampering your plans then escape indoors to the aquarium. It’s perfect for an afternoon of entertaining the kids. One of the favourites can be the penguins and the 15-meter walk through the aquarium tunnel.

This aquarium is divided into multiple sections covering different types of fish. The highlight is the Sub-Antarctic (penguin) section, with chilled display tanks featuring a range of different penguins. The tropical fish section was also memorable for its bright and colourful fish.

There is a cafeteria with toilets roughly mid-way through the aquarium. It all ends in a duty-free shop with some impressive prices on spirits.

5. Crocodile Adventure

Yet another place where you can spend your afternoon watching more than 1000 crocodiles of different sizes (from juvenile to large adults) and species (crocs and alligators). Crocodile feeding ponds and gimmicky animal shows are the main highlights for more family-friendly entertainment. If you dare, cross the bridge over the giant pond with deadly crocs, be careful not to lean over the railing!

6. Time Travel Imaginarium

Definitely, the place to unleash your kid’s imagination and creativity. Kids will also be able to create, colour and scan their original drawings, then watch their artwork come alive in animated 3D on a 30-foot screen at the Rainbow Alive exhibit in Kiddotown, the heart of Imaginarium.

7. Upside Down House

If you’re visiting Langkawi and looking for something fun to do, you wouldn’t want to miss paying a visit to Upsidow, where you Turn Your World Upside Down! Upsidow is an Upside Down House Art Installation where everything inside is made from recycled, up-cycled and unwanted materials. Plenty of photo opportunities await inside Upsidow, which promises to be a fun activity for friends and family. A truly perfect place to take pictures of kids being creative in their own imagination.

8. Art In Paradise

Located within the Oriental Village is Malaysia’s largest 3D art museum featuring more than 100 3D paintings across 21,000 square feet. While I must admit I am not normally an art lover, this place was simply wonderful. Kids can have a field day and posed for photos at every painting. They will skip on the electronics, no “I’m hungry” complaints, just running around looking at art and having fun.

9. Sunset Cruise

Although some may think that the sunset cruise is for the lovebirds, however, even kids can enjoy the sun setting, touching the seas as it goes down. There are lots of islands and limestone cliffs. It is very peaceful. The sunset dinner is lovely and fresh – featuring fish, satay, salad, rice, and several other dishes. The boat is perfect. A great size with places for kids to explore and plenty of space to sit and relax. It is truly heavenly.
