This is my first time ever taking a ride in a cable car.
And lucky me Langkawi cable car is known to be the steepest cable car ride in South East Asia and took me 708m above sea level to Langkawi‘s second highest peak of Mt. Machinchang, where the view of the surrounding islands truly is breath-taking.
Since I have purchased my tickets online, I had the privilege to skip the long queues at the purchasing counter and redeemed my ticket at counter 6. From the base station, I took the cable car with another couple. It took about 20 minutes to get to the middle station.
I was a little apprehensive to look out but you can’t let fear take away the amazing experience of the 360 bird-eye views of Langkawi Island. Since I was alone it felt slightly awkward to be sharing the cable car with the couple but thank goodness I rented a binocular as they told me if you’re lucky you could spot some very rare species of birds like the mountain hawk eagles. The binoculars cost me RM8.
You have the option to get down at the middle station if you like. There’s nothing much here except a platform for viewing and taking pictures of the scenery. I spent about 5 minutes here and rushed back into the cable car as I couldn’t wait to get to the top.
This time I got the cable car all to myself. I truly enjoyed the silence. It was pin-drop silence except for the sound my own breath as I slowly ascend to the top. Dark thoughts came to mind like what if I am left all alone here and no one ever comes to my rescue. Hahaha.
Nevertheless, I have never felt anything like this. Socializing is good but once in a while, you ought to spend some time just with yourself. And I did! But usually, people take the ride with friends and family so even if you fear heights you would not need to go through it by yourself. It was a great holiday I must say. Escape from the busy city life to a stunning landscape, not just for family or couples but also for solo travellers.
One piece of advice, skip the queue by getting your tickets online!
