Brasserie is a great place to relax if you can find it. It’s tucked away in a small alley in Pantai Cenang with only a tiny sign leading down to it.
Don’t let that fool you; it should have a huge glaring neon sign that says ‘DESTRESS HERE’. It’s easy to enjoy the atmosphere with something for everyone.Young groups wanting to enjoy a night out with friends can hang out by the bar and pool table inside while travelling couples and honeymooners can steer outside to the veranda.
Best part is you can take your shoes off and feel the smooth sand underneath your feet as you enjoy a pint of beer and a plate of pasta. Music plays softly in the background, just loud enough to enjoy the clear night sky but still allows easy flowing conversation. But don’t get me wrong, it’s just as beautiful in the afternoon.
You could sit on a regular table or enjoy huge earthly sofas which turns a convenient lunch into a relaxing afternoon, enjoying the Langkawi sea beyond. You can even enjoy lounge chairs on the beach itself (in front of the restaurant) that is rented out by beach vendor at RM 15 a day. While’ it’s not technically on the premises, lighter snacks from the Brasserie can be delivered straight to you.
Now onto the best part, the food! The manager, Mr Lorenzo hails from Milan and was previously the chef at Grappa in Kuala Lumpur. The cuisine is Mediterranean inspired western food that has a variety of pastas, main courses and wonderful seafood dishes. You’d forget you’re on a Malaysian beach, with such lovely European dishes.
As soon as you sit down, you’re served a variety of breads and breadsticks with olive. Don’t get too full because there are some highly recommended starters. After a word with Mr Lorenzo, he had a lovely platter specially made with tuna Carpaccio, crab cakes and scallops. For main course, go for the pan fried black cod and the lamb shank.
Make sure to leave room for desserts because you’re going to want to order at least two from their selection. I highly recommended the Sicilian Cassata semifredo with candied fruits and the brownies with ice cream. But I don’t think you would go wrong order anything off here.
Last but not least, let’s talk alcohol. There is a wide wine and cocktail selection. The happy hour promotion is 2 for the price of 1 on some of their selected coctails and beers for anyone who wants to enjoy the place in the afternoon. Their cocktails come adorned with a tiny pink umbrella and their Hoegaarden beer costs RM7.
Highly recommend this restaurant, definitely one of the better ones in Langkawi though very understated. Great service, great ambiance, and great food.
